Tell someone their love life will improve and nothing changes. Tell someone their money pattern is "arrives in bursts, leaves in bursts, and you have decided this is a personality rather than a pattern" and something occasionally does. Money is the one category where naming the behaviour is most of the intervention.
Four money patterns, and all of them are common
- The burst: high Chaos, high Drive. Big months, empty months, no smoothing between them.
- The hoarder-worrier: low Chaos, high Drive. Genuinely fine, still awake at 3am about it.
- The generous leak: high Heart, high Orbit. The "for other people" line is unlimited, and you would not change it.
- The disinterested: high Dreaming, low Drive. Not careless, simply not paying attention, which costs the same.
Notice that none of these is about how much you earn. They are about the shape of the flow, and the shape is the part that responds to a single decision.
The single boring fix
Every one of those four patterns improves with the same intervention: one automatic transfer, set up once, on the day money arrives, that you never look at again. It works because it removes the decision from the moment of temptation and hands it to a version of you that was feeling motivated. That is the entire trick. There is no second trick.
Discipline is unreliable. Automation is a decision you only have to win once.
